Let me get real for a moment…

Creating your own intentional community is no walk in the park. 

I’m not gonna lie to you and say it was easy. 

Making this life work requires you to make some sacrifices, change your habits, and often get pretty uncomfortable. 

Especially in the early days when you’re constantly doubting yourself, repeating all sorts of negative nonsense in your head.

“I can’t afford land!”

“Who am I to be a homesteader?”

“How am I going to find like-minded people who would even want to live on my land?

“Ugh, there are too many steps, too many laws, and too many unknowns to make this work.”

“Where would I even set up my community? And how would I even establish it legally?” 

Rebecca and I anguished over all these questions and a thousand more for many years. 

And we struggled financially for most of that time, too.

But we had a BURNING DESIRE to live free in the country with others who shared our values and we weren’t going to let anything stand in our way

No matter how far away our dream seemed to be, we never lost sight of it, and we never gave up pursuing it. 

We scraped and saved every last penny. 

We ran up some credit cards. 

We stopped eating out. 

We read books, watched videos, listened to podcasts, and networked with other homesteaders and community builders. 

Then COVID hit and pushed us over the edge. 

We knuckled down even harder to escape the crazies in Austin and secure a better life for my kids.

We finally got a 10-acre plot of homestead land in Central Texas

We saved enough to slap 10% down on a beautiful 10-acre homestead with a nice ranch-style home to call our own.

It was 2021, the Plandemic was still raging, but my family and I were finally escaping the toxic culture found near the city to dwell in peace in the country.

Our property was a vast blank canvas and we were ready to start painting.

But it took a lot longer for us to create a masterpiece than I would’ve liked.

Becca and I would often take long walks around the property excitedly talking about our vision, pointing out spots where gardens could go and animals could graze and food forests could blossom.

For a while, it was all talk.

But…

Then we met a few awesome people who helped us to turn our raw land into a food producing oasis

Today, we have 16 wicking garden beds. A chicken coop with 15 chickens and 8 ducks. A buzzing beehive. And we just got quail.
